CITB Skills and Training Fund

How to claim up to £10,000 free training through the CITB Skills and Training Fund.

Did you know? Construction companies employing less than 100 people can apply for up to £10,000 a year to use on training for their staff.

Over the last three years, CITB has distributed £62m across three projects which improve training standards, recruitment, productivity and the use of new technology in the construction industry…and yet, still so many construction companies are either not aware of or aren’t claiming this funding.

The Skills and Training Fund, one of three projects CITB distribute their funding through, has awarded close to £14m for a range of training projects since it was launched in 2015. 80% of the funding goes to construction businesses with fewer than 50 employees. 19% goes to projects helping workers over 50 keep up with their skills and knowledge so that they can continue to be productive in the industry.

In 2018-2019 alone, over 2,000 workers benefited from a Skills and Training funded Project.

How much can you apply for through the Skills and Training Funding Scheme?

CITB-registered employers can apply for funding related to how many direct employees they have:

• Employers with 1 to 49 directly employed staff can receive up to £5,000.
• Employers with 50 to 74 directly employed staff can receive up to £7,500.
• Employers with 75 to 99 directly employed staff can receive up to £10,000.

You are not eligible for funding without a completed Levy Return!

CITB Levy is used to make sure the construction industry has the correct skills for now and the future. This is based around three strategic priorities: Careers, Standards & Qualifications and Training & Development. The funding received through the CITB Skills and Training will provide us with the assistance needed to develop a stronger skills base. Specifically, it will provide an extra incentive for us to access CITB grant eligible training.
