CISTC attends Women in Construction Expo

This week, CISTC celebrated Women in Construction Week and International Women’s Day by attending the Women in Construction Expo in Basingstoke.

The event was for women who are looking for a change in career to network and discover new opportunities in construction. Run by the Hampshire Futures Skills & Participation, it provided a platform for women to talk to employers, learn about apprenticeships and find out about construction courses.

With many already working in the industry at the event, attendees were also able to hear about their experiences and be inspired to join the next generation of women in construction.

Sharron Hampson from CISTC attended the event and had the opportunity to speak to many women about the benefits of working in construction as well as the ways in which CISTC could help kick-start their new careers.

She commented: “It was a really great afternoon spent at the Women in Construction Expo. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting, chatting and hopefully guiding young women who were interested in getting into construction. I also had very interesting chats with Mark Pope of CoTrain and Emily Dumelow of The Apprentice Hub with regards to possible future collaborations in order to support young women to achieve their goal of a rewarding career in the construction industry. Thank you to Rachel Sale and Kerry Cruden-Mills of Hampshire CC for the opportunity to attend a very worthwhile event.”

Equal Opportunities for Women in Construction

At CISTC, we believe in equal opportunities for all and are committed to eradicating the bias and stereotypes women may experience within construction. We aim to create a safe space for all to learn and develop their skills.

We have many women complete construction training with us, all with fantastic feedback. Recently, we were able to provide a three-day dumper taster session to kick start Natalie’s new “life-changing” career which you can read more about on the CITB website.
